Archotta

Being migrant workers in Singapore, they are constantly working and far away from the familiarity of their home country and culture. Since this site, Lembu Road open space has been a known gathering spot for these migrant workers on their off day, I wanted to enhance it and really make it feel like home to them. Therefore, the main material used in the community hub is brick, a familiar material, used for buildings in Bangladesh. Arches are also a common structural component in their architecture, so I combined it into the facade, while bringing a contemporary take on it. Terracotta pottery, being unique to Bangladesh pottery culture, is a main activity at the community hub, to bring more awareness to these unique crafts from Bangladesh.

Lai Meiyi Marilyn

Hello, I’m Marilyn! Growing up the youngest and living in a household with three generations, I was surrounded by love and care as I grew up. Learning to value my relations with family from young, led me wanting to help those around me. I enjoy working with others and sharing new knowledge I have learnt. My strong sense of responsibility and pride in my work, makes me strive to do my best and reach my own set of standards. I hope to explore the little things that interest me while learning and growing from my experiences and mistakes.
